Strategy Builder→Can GAIA Be Installed Over Radiant Heat?

Back

Yes, GAIA SPC/eSPC and laminate flooring can be installed over radiant heating systems, but proper installation is critical to ensure durability and performance. NOTE: When using hydronic systems, please test the system to ensure there are no leaks and all areas are heating evenly.

Key points for installation:

  • Radiant heat systems must have at least 1/2" separation between heating elements and the flooring.
  • Follow the radiant heating manufacturer's guidelines to ensure the radiant heat system is compatible with your floor.
  • Electric heating mats that aren’t embedded in the subfloor will void the warranty.
  • The floating installation method is the only one approved for use with radiant heat systems.
  • Floor temperatures must not exceed 80°F (26.67°C), and a temperature sensor is recommended.
  • Maintain relative humidity between 35%-55%.
  • Concrete or gypcrete must cure for at least 4 weeks before operating radiant heat.

Gradual adjustments should be made when turning the system off, reducing it by no more than 10°F per day.

For more details, refer to GAIA's installation guide and consult your radiant heating system manufacturer.
